OUR ACHIEVEMENTS

2004 "Silver rose" international reward for the work with vulnerable groups of people

ND continuously collects data about the problems and phenomenon related to the homelessness and poverty and provides evaluations of different aspects of homelessness.

Evaluation Methods:

  • Collection of information (from homeless individuals who live on the streets, clients of the Centre for the homeless re-socialization, Chernivtsi citizens, and the community leaders);

  • Interviews;

  • Questionnaires;

  • Focus-groups;

  • Analysis of statistical data of the Centre for Re-socialization of Homeless People and street work results.

Evaluation Topics:

1. Awareness of the community to the problems of homeless people.
Does the community have an interest in the problem of homelessness? Does the community care about homeless people? What do citizens think about the reasons why people become homeless? What do the community members know about the problem of homelessness? Can any person become homeless? Do people think that homeless people are a danger to them? Who must decide what to do about the problem of homelessness?

2. Social aspects of homelessness.
What problems are most important to homeless people? What are the reasons for loss of housing? What illnesses occur more frequently among homeless individuals? Is alcohol abuse really the main reason for homelessness? What is the life style of homeless people in Chernivtsi (how do they earn money, where do they find lodging for the night)? Is everybody who searches through a dumpster a homeless person? Do homeless individuals want to return to a normal life style? What do homeless people know about the possibilities of getting social services? Does the homeless population have its own system of values and own sub-culture?
